The story, divided into smaller, revolves around the residents of Via Veneto in Rome, and especially Marcello Rubini, a gossip reporter eager to writer who flirts with this high-born society. His experiences along these accounts include, among others, the arrival of a famous international star, a false vision of the Virgin, a suicide attempt and an evening party in style.
The most famous scene from the film, shot in the Fontana di Trevi. As events progress, the bitter side of high society is becoming more evident as, in turn, journalist is falling into a boredom empty life, stuck in a loop nights with no real purpose, to hunt gossip year based on alcohol and smoothies. Also, many times you touch the problem of lack of communication, which in real life is often caused by not wanting to listen, here expressed with loud noises such as helicopters or crowds.
This film contains two scenes very famous in the film world: first, when a helicopter flies over the city carrying a statue of Jesus to the Plaza de San Pedro, and the second, and perhaps one of the most famous in history, the scene of the Fontana di Trevi between Marcello and Sylvie, that has been emulated by people around the world to the point that is currently prohibited to bathe in the fountain or face a fine.
